What is the best rideshare app in the Netherlands?
UberX. It's a ride that needs no introduction: our flagship service, uberX, offers easy everyday rides at everyday rates, transporting riders in cities across the Netherlands. Whether you're coming home from work or heading out with friends, uberX is the go-to option for a quick, affordable ride across town.
ViaVan is by far the cheapest choice for a taxi on demand in Amsterdam. ViaVan, an app which you can download on iPhone and Android, works in a similar way to Uber but with much lower prices. This is possible due to their focus on efficiency; they are best known for the ride-sharing taxi service.
We asked Dutch consumers about "Ride sharing/hailing / online taxi usage by brand" and found that "Uber" takes the top spot, while "Yeller" is at the other end of the ranking. These results are based on a representative online survey conducted in 2023 among 336 consumers in the Netherlands.
In Amsterdam you generally either call a taxi company to come and pick you up or you can go to one of the many official taxi ranks around the city centre. Sneleentaxi is a very reliable taxi booking firm offering rides anywhere in the Netherlands. This includes around Amsterdam and to/from airports.
Lyft does not operate in NL. You can use an APP from Europe named Bolt which is pretty decent. Also Uber. Taxis are very nice and fine to use normally - for a small distance the fare difference would not be big.
UberX. It's a ride that needs no introduction: our flagship service, uberX, offers easy everyday rides at everyday rates, transporting riders in cities across the Netherlands.
Amsterdam: Get a ride. Travel. Explore. Planning a trip is easy with Uber.
Whether you're heading from Schiphol to Amsterdam city center or Amsterdam city center to Schiphol, get where you're going with the Uber app you already know. Request a ride to and from AMS at the tap of a button.
Door-to-Door Safety Standard
As with all our products, all cars active on the Uber platform in the Netherlands have mandatory dividers installed between the front and backseats to help protect passengers and drivers. We ask you to sit in the back seat to allow for more space between you and your driver.
UBER: Ride-hailing app Uber is present in Amsterdam and airport-city transfers cost around €62 (Uber Black) and €39 (UberX).
Is Bolt better than Uber in the Netherlands?
Both work. I prefer to use Bolt over Uber as it is an EU company and, according to most drivers I spoke to, they pay and treat their drivers better. I agree. I do not use Uber, but do use Bolt.
Uber works pretty well in Amsterdam. There are areas that the drivers cannot pickup, like in the red light / old town area. But the app will tell you where to go. One slight issue with uber, if it is very busy and heading to 2x the usual fare or more, it might be better to get a regular taxi.
Arrange safe transport with the Staxi Taxi App
Staxi will take you to your destination safely and smoothly. During the journey, you can prepare for your meeting or relax and enjoy the view. Book and pay safely in advance, so you don't have to think about anything else.
As of 2021, an average UberX trip in the Netherlands can cost around €10 to €15 for a short ride within the city, with a price per kilometer of €1.5 to €2 and a time cost of €0.20 to €0.25 per minute. It's best to check the Uber app for an accurate fare estimate for your specific trip.

Market dynamics between Uber and Lyft
Uber and Lyft are the largest players in the global ride-sharing market, with Uber remaining the dominating platform. In the global marketplace Uber benefits from being active in 72 countries around the world, while Lyft is only active in the United States and Canada.
While Uber has been around for longer and is more established in the UK public consciousness, Bolt is undoubtedly a serious competitor. With similar driver and vehicle requirements, safety procedures and pricing, the main difference appears to be the lower commission rates charged by Bolt.
Does Uber work in Rotterdam?
Thousands of riders request rides with Uber every day. You can generate revenue by using the Uber app in Rotterdam while getting riders where they need to go.
Plus, Uber has a reputation for being cheaper than taxis most of the time. Although you can conveniently pay with your credit or debit card, the downside is that they generally don't accept cash.
Uber from Amsterdam Airport to the City Centre
Like in almost all the airports in the world, even Amsterdam Airport faces the classic conflict between official taxis and private transfers. Regarding Uber's rates, a run from Amsterdam Airport to Amsterdam Central costs about €30-40.
Boasting a whole range of transport opportunities, Amsterdam can take you where you need to go via a boat, bike, train, tram or bus. The cheapest way to travel around Amsterdam is walking but if you need to get somewhere fast, the use of an OV chip card is the answer.
This one is pretty simple to answer – the Dutch do not have a tipping culture as strongly-ingrained as much of the English-speaking world. In a bar, restaurant, or private boat tour in Amsterdam, provided the service was good, a tip of around 10% is appreciated but not automatically expected.
